Catarct

Cataract is a turbidity eye lens,  it is caused by hydration, lens protein denaturation, or both. Cataract mostly affect both eye progressively. The lens so blur and not clean anymore, so that's why patient with cataract hard to see. 


Etiology
Etiology of this disease are so many. Generally, caused by age (senile), virus infection in fetus, genetic, development disturbance, system and metabolic disorder : diabetic, miotonic distropy, traumatic, systemic steroid therapy, etc.

Smoking and alcohol consumption will increase the risk.

Clinical Manifestation
Symptoms are visual acuity decrease progressively and blur vision, in the oftalmoscop assessment there is no red reflects, white pupil.

Therapy
  1. Operation will be performed if  the vision acuity decrease and disturb patient's activity or if the complication arise such as glaucoma and uveitis.
  2. If the operation had been already performed, the next therapy are:
    • Infection prevention
    • Avoid lifting weight
    • Cover the eye by sun glasses or gauze for protection to the sunlight 
  3. Permanent glasses will be prescribed for 6-8 weeks after the operation
