Optical Neuritis

There are two types of this disease, papilitis (optical papil nerve implamation) and retrobulbular neuritis (implamation behind the eye ball). Mostly this disease occurs in women.



Etilogy
  1. Ideopathy
  2. Multiple sclerosis
  3. Post infection of morbili in children
  4. Nerve meilen disease
  5. Anemia perniseosa
  6. Diabetes meletus
  7. Intoxication
Sign and Symptoms
Sudden vision loss, orbital cavity pain, color vision disturbance, Uthhoff sign (vision decrease after exercise or high temperature ),  Marcus Gun pupil, papil edema.

Treatment
Causal treatment based on the etiology, corticosteroid or ACTH, the patient should be hospitalized soon. In Acute condition with visual acuity 20/40 give supervising, if the the score is 20/50 should be supervised and given metilprednisolon 250mg iv every 6 hours in 3 days, and orally prednisolon tablet 1mg/BW in 11 days and the last is tapering off in every 4 days. Antibiotic can be prescribed against the infection, vasodilator, and vitamins.
